How to Sew a Face Mask

Supplies

Step 1. Cut two pieces of cotton material in the following dimensions:

Mark one piece of material one inch from each corner on the short sides as revealed.

Step 2. Cut 2 6″ pieces of flexible (adult) and machine tack to the marked fabric.

If you run out of thin flexible you can divide thicker elastic lengthwise. Use sharp scissors not a rotary cutter to split it. Then give it a great stretch to pop out any damaged flexible threads and you’re good to go!

For the kid sizes, you can use 4-5″ elastic based on sizing. I likewise make these with ties. You will need 4 strips of 12-14″ bias tape. Tack each piece on the mark as shown with the elastic. I device tack for extra reinforcement however you can pin it– whatever is most convenient!

Action 3. Pin the other fabric face down to the added material.

Step 4. Sew it up leaving a hole at the top or bottom of a long side so that you can turn it. I utilized a little less than a 1/2″ joint allowance.

Step 5. Turn it best side out and poke out the corners.

Step 6. Iron it out flat.

Action 7. Iron the first pleat.

Step 8. Iron the 2nd pleat. You can pin the pleats but I do not. I just hit it with steam from the iron.

Step 9. Sew along the edges making sure to close the hole.

Action 10. You’re done!!! Congratulations you have actually helped the cause!!!
